Padang/Sumbar (Indonesia News) – Using a helicopter from the Indonesian Air Force, a female Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) named “Putri Singgulung” was released into a conservation area in West Sumatra/West Sumatra (16/10).
This activity was carried out by the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) and the Directorate for Conservation of Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (KKHSDG) together with the ARSARI Djojohadikusumo Foundation (YAD), supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense through the Air Operations Command I Indonesian Air Force Base Roesmin Nurjadin, Balai Besar Riau Natural Resources Conservation (BBKSDA), Indonesian Sintas Foundation, and Department of Biology FMIPA Andalas University, West Sumatra
"This is the second release for Putri Singgulung, previously on November 27 2020. Now, Putri Singgulung has been declared able to adapt to her new habitat since October 30 2022," said the Head of the W Sumatra BKSDA Ardi Andono.
Putri Singgulung is a Sumatran tiger who was rescued with her brother named Putra Singgulung in Solok Regency, West Sumatra in June 2020. At that time she was estimated to be only eight months old, then was placed in custody for rehabilitation at the Dharmasraya Sumatran Tiger Rehabilitation Center (PR-HSD) -ARSARI Foundation Djojohadikusumo for the first four months, namely (June-October 2020).
According to Ardi, animal release activities are carried out according to existing procedures by applying the precautionary principle so as not to cause negative impacts on the animals, their habitat and the surrounding community.
Separately, Plt. The Director General of Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KSDAE-KLHK), Bambang Hendroyono, said that the government and all parties continue to try to prevent and overcome conflicts that occur between humans and wild animals.
"We thank the ARSARI Foundation led by Hashim Djojohadikusumo, and various parties including the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, for their good cooperation in releasing Putri Singgulung," said Bambang (ma).
