Jakarta, Indonesia News Present : Indonesia will face the biggest one-day simultaneous elections in the world. But the campaign period is only 75 days. This was stated by Titi Anggraini, Supervisor of PERLUDEM (Association for Elections and Democracy).
Titi discussed this in a Webinar in Jakarta (12/1), held by the SATUPENA Indonesian Writers Association, chaired by Denny JA. In terms of the number of voters, added Titi, based on data sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the General Elections Commission (KPU), it is estimated that there will be 204 million domestic voters plus 1.8 million potential overseas voters.
However, in the 2024 election there is a process of implementing the election that is not easy. For example, when it comes to formulating program stages and election schedules. “There has been a very strong tug-of-war between the KPU, Commission II of the DPR RI and the government. Especially at that time, when I had to decide on the duration of the campaign period,” he explained.
According to Titi, initially the KPU for the long term proposed a 120-day campaign period. Then the Government wanted 90 days. It turned out that the DPR RI chose 75 days. "The reason is to avoid campaign excesses, divisions, and so on," explained Titi.
"Imagine, we will face the biggest one-day election in the world, but the campaign period is only 75 days. We talk a lot about the politics of ideas, and so on. But the tension between the duration of the campaign period makes a decision taken by the KPU, the campaign period is only 75 days," he continued.
